Report on the Study Visit Conducted to Hungary Related to Ukrainian Refugees By the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye
where they would like to go as well as their food and drink needs during
this period. He noted that there are a large number of Hungarians with
dual citizenship living in the border region among those who have arrived
and that they feel as if they have returned to their own homes. He pointed
out that not everyone using the peace corridor flee the country but move
within the country. He informed that since there are many Ukrainians
living in Europe, there are many people who have declared that they will
only stay for a night and then move to Western Europe to their relatives’
house. Highlighting that as Hungary, they accept everyone declaring they
flee the war, he noted that since they are at the border with Romain, they
accept people who come through Romania and declare that they flee the
war, which means that they accept people from a country where there is
no war actually.
Following the aforementioned meeting, we went to Szabolcs-Szatmár-
Bereg County, another administrative region (county) at the border with
Romania and held a meeting at the Police Headquarters. The County Police
Chief expressed that they have experienced a serious refugee problem
as of 24 February 2022 but that they have taken an early measure. He
emphasised that they have a border of 137 kilometres with Ukraine,
which also means the border of Schengen, and that it is necessary to
take into account the border of about 100 kilometres of the county where
