THE OMBUDSMAN INSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE

               With the Law No. 6328 on the Ombudsman Institution, which came into force in
               2012, the Ombudsman Institution was established as a public legal human rights
               institution with a special budget affiliated to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye,
               to examine, investigate and issue recommendations in terms of compliance with law
               and fairness, in an understanding of justice based on human rights, of all kinds of acts,
               actions, attitudes and behaviors  of the administration and started to receive applications
               as of 29.03.2013.

               The right to apply to the Ombudsman is a constitutional right, and the Ombudsman
               Institution primarily undertakes important duties for the protection and defense of the
               rights of the citizens who are in a weaker position against the administration that uses
               the public power.
               The  Ombudsman  Institution  has managed  to become  a  strong voice of  public
               conscience in a very short time, thanks to the independent and impartial investigations
               and researches it carries out on the basis of the rule of law, democracy, development of
               respect for human rights, as well as the understanding of responsibility towards society.
               The task of the Ombudsman Institution is not limited to examining applications, but also
               to raise awareness of citizens about their rights and ways to seek legal remedies, to raise
               awareness in national and international environments, and to encourage cooperation
               between all stakeholders such as administrations, non-governmental organizations and
               universities.
