THE OMBUDSMAN INSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE

➢ Experts from the Ombudsman Institution Ms. Seçil Gülçat and Mr. Yasin Varol
participated in the “National Symposium on the Right to Information” held by the
Ministry of Justice Information Evaluation Board on 6 January 2022 in Ankara.

➢ On 1 March 2022, representing the Ombudsman Institution, Ms. Elif Açıl,
Expert at the Ombudsman Institution, attended the conference titled “Workload
in Individual Application to the Constitutional Court and Suggestions for
Solutions” organized with the cooperation of the Constitutional Court, the Research
Center for Constitutional Justice (AYAM) and Bilkent University Faculty of Law.

➢ Judge Mr. Anıl Çetin and Experts Ms. Başak Manav and Ms. Seçil Gülçat from the
Ombudsman Institution and attended the “Monitoring of Penitentiary Institutions
in terms of Human Rights and Criminal Justice System” Symposium organized at
the Supreme Court Hall, hosted by the Constitutional Court on 2 March 2022.
➢ Judge Mr. Anıl Çetin from the Ombudsman Institution attended the closing
ceremony of the EU Twinning Project, “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of
Personnel Training Centers of the Penal Institutions”, which aims to standardize the
curriculum applied in training centers affiliated to the General Directorate of Prisons
and Detention Houses and to improve the quality of the training staff and human
resources management in the centers, on 17 March 2022.

➢ The Ombudsman Institution participated in the First Steering Committee
Meeting held on 30 March 2022 to provide information about the process, outputs
and expected results of the project “Technical Assistance for Supporting Children’s
Rights in Türkiye” and to discuss the activities that should be done for the successful
implementation of the project.

➢ On 31 March 2022, the Ombudsman Institution was represented at expert level at
the inaugural event of the “Reinforcing Effectiveness of National Asylum Procedures
in Compliance with International Standards and National Legislation” Project,
which was implemented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) and of which the Directorate of Migration Management is the beneficiary.

➢ Coordinator Expert Mr. İslam Akkuş,
representing the Ombudsman Institution,
attended the “Meeting of the Committee on
the Elimination of Racial Discrimination”
held by the Human Rights and Equality
Institution of Türkiye (HREIT) on 13
May 2022 in order to discuss the problems
and to exchange information related to the
prohibition of discrimination in accordance with Law no. 6701 on Human Rights
and Equality Institution of Türkiye.
