9.2.1 PROJECT ACTIVITIES

EU Funded Project "Technical Assistance for Empowerment of the Role of
Ombudsman in the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights"

In 2022, the following activities were carried out in terms of the project activities:
Project Meetings

• On 13 January 2022, the 9 Executive Board and the 16 Monthly Board of
Directors Meeting were held online via video conference.

• On 5 April 2022, the 17 Monthly Board of Directors Meeting was held online via
video conference.

• On 9 June 2022, the 10 Executive Board and the 18 Monthly Board of Directors
Meeting were held.

• On 15 December 2022, the 20 Monthly Board of Directors Meeting was held.
Conference
• The “Knowledge and Experience Sharing Conference on Human Rights and
Migration” was held in Istanbul on 9-10-11 November 2022 within the scope of
the EU Project.

• At the opening of the conference on Migration and Human Rights, Deputy
Minister of Interior Mr. İsmail Çataklı and Head of Political Affairs Department of
the EU Delegation to Türkiye, Ambassador Counselor Mr. Stefano Fantaroni made
speeches.

• The first panel of the conference on Migration and Human Rights was moderated by
Ombudsman Mr. Yahya Akman. Director General for Migration Management Dr.
Savaş Ünlü and UNHCR Türkiye Representative Mr. Philippe Leclerc participated
in the panel as speakers.
• The second panel was moderated by Ombudsman Mr. Sadettin Kalkan. People’s
Advocate (Ombudsman) Moldova Mr. Ceslav Panico, Regional Ombudsman
of Tuscany Mr. Vittorio Gasparrini, Ms. Martha Hirsch Ziembinska from the
European Ombudsman participated as speakers.
• The third panel was moderated by Ombudsman Ms. Özlem Tunçak. The
Commission for Protection against Discrimination of the Republic of Bulgaria Ms.
Ana Dzhumalieva and Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Dr. Akos
Kozma participated in the panel as speakers. In his speech at the third panel titled
“Migration and Asylum from a Human Rights Perspective”, Chief Ombudsman Mr.
Şeref Malkoç emphasized the importance of the conference in terms of contributing
to the improvement of relations among Ombudsmen.
