Report on the Study Visit Conducted to Hungary Related to Ukrainian Refugees By the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye
While the number of Syrian babies born after 2011 has exceeded 650
thousand, the number of working Syrians has reached 1.4 million, and the
number of Syrians who receive Turkish education and attend school is 770
thousand, it has become difficult to consider Syrians under temporary
protection as guests. Given the fact that Syrians have lived in Türkiye

for about 11 years, many of them have been involved in working life,
hundreds of thousands of children have been born in Türkiye, children
have been receiving education in Turkish schools, and the continuation
of the instability in Syria, it does not seem very likely that Syrians will
return voluntarily. Turkish citizens are also aware of this fact; however,
the cultural differences between the two communities, the concern that
they will lose their jobs to Syrians, and the high birth rate are obstacles
to social cohesion and are also subject to political discussions, putting
pressure on the government.
