THE OMBUDSMAN INSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE

Activities within the Scope of the Association of Ombudsmen and National
Human Rights Institutions of Turkic States (TÜRKOMB)

• On 22 April 2022, an online meeting was held within the scope of the Association
of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of Turkic States
(TÜRKOMB) with the participation of Experts.

• On 12-13 May 2022, the founding
meeting of TÜRKOMB was held in
Bursa, hosted by the Ombudsman

(Ombudsman) Ms. Feruza Eshmatova, Ombudsman (Akyikatchy) of the Kyrgyz
Republic Ms. Atyr Abdrakhmatova, Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman)
of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva and Ombudsman of the Turkish
Republic of Northern Cyprus Ms. İlkan Varol attended the founding meeting of the
Association as well as Chief Ombudsman Mr. Şeref Malkoç, with the participation
by Binali Yıldırım, Chairman of the Council of Aksakals of the Organization of the
Turkish States. In the process leading up to the establishment of the Association,
many meetings were held online, mutual exchange of ideas and an intense effort
were spent with the Ombudsman and human rights institutions of the relevant
countries. As a result of these efforts, the establishment of the Association was
declared with the signatures. The Association aims to contribute to the increase of
cooperation between Turkic States on the protection and development of the rule of
law and human rights, and to establish a permanent basis for this cooperation.
• TÜRKOMB held an online meeting on 28 July 2022.
• On 1 August 2022, Chief Ombudsman Mr. Şeref Malkoç attended the online
meeting of TÜRKOMB.
• On 15 September 2022, a training on “Right to Access to Information” was given
online by the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the
Republic of Azerbaijan within the scope of TÜRKOMB.
• TÜRKOMB meeting was held in Baku/Azerbaijan on 20 October 2022, hosted by
the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
