THE OMBUDSMAN INSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE
❖ In order to raise awareness about xenophobia and hate crimes abroad, to provide
basic information on the subject and to convey what legal remedies can be used
against such acts and actions, on 5 March 2022, the students of the International
Theology Program were trained in the Ombudsman Institution, and 45 people
participated in the training.

❖ Within the scope of the “9 International Religious Services Conference”
organized under the title of “The Future of Religious Services Abroad,
Cooperation Opportunities and Institutional Experience Sharing in the Face
of Current Crises”, the Counselors and Attaches of the Presidency of Religious
Affairs were hosted in the Ombudsman Institution (31 May 2022). At the
meeting held, the religious-based discrimination and hate speech suffered by the
Turkish diaspora abroad were pointed out, and information was presented about
the mechanisms for seeking legal remedies.
❖ The Ombudsman Institution attended the workshop on "Anti-Muslim Hate
Crimes and Security of Muslim Communities, Anti-Immigration, Intolerance
and Discrimination" organized in cooperation with Presidency for Turks Abroad
and Related Communities (YTB) and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions
and Human Rights (ODIHR) within the scope of inter-institutional cooperation
(7 June 2022). In the workshop, the Ombudsman Institution's experiences on
rights-based approach in applications containing allegations of discrimination
were presented, and experiences were exchanged.
❖ The Ombudsman Institution participated the Human Rights Institutions
Evaluation Meeting with the aim of "A Stronger Human Rights Protection
System" and Increasing the Efficiency of Human Rights Institutions, (9 June
2022) under the chairmanship of Minister of Justice, Mr. Bekir Bozdağ. The
work to be done within the scope of the Human Rights Action Plan was covered
at the meeting.
❖ Through meetings with Turkish NGOs abroad hosted by foreign representative
offices of Türkiye, Ombudsman Institution has raised awareness about
discrimination against Turkish citizens in the relevant countries. NGO
representatives are informed about the practices and legislation examples based
on discrimination in the visited country, and enlightened about which national/
regional/global mechanisms for seeking legal remedies can be operated in the
country of residence in case of discrimination. Brochures prepared by the
Bureau regarding the mechanisms for seeking legal remedies in that country
are distributed to the representatives of the NGOs. In this context, in 2022,
the Ombudsman Institution visited Denmark-Copenhagen (10 May 2022)
and Netherlands- Rotterdam (22 June 2022) and met with 25 different NGOs.
