rights and who seek their legal remedies in the most appropriate ways and methods,
and to develop individual sensitivity against the administration’s practices which are
contrary to law, equity, human rights, and principles of good administration. Due to
the pandemic, we had to postpone many activities which we planned.
We organised the “23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day Online Chess
Tournament” between 17-20 April in accordance with the protocol signed between the
Ombudsman Institution and the Turkish Chess Federation in order to raise awareness
about protecting children’s rights, to remind our young people about the Ombudsman
Institution, equity, justice, and human rights, and to spread the culture of seeking legal
remedies.
Within the scope of the Ombudsman Institution Child Strategy, we organised the
Ombudsman Institution and Child Rights Trainings for the Lawyers of the No. 2 Bar
Association of İstanbul and Bar Associations of Samsun, Mardin, and Eskişehir.
Within the scope of the “Empowerment of the Role of Ombudsman in the Protection
and Promotion of Human Rights Project”, which is carried out jointly with our
Institution and the European Union, we organised the National Ombudsmanship
Symposium themed “Culture of Seeking Legal Remedies of the Youth” with
the participation of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Director for European Union Affairs, President of the Union of Turkish
Bar Associations, Ombudsmen, representatives of Ombudsman student clubs of
universities, high school students as representatives from some high schools in Ankara,
some national athletes from Sports Federations, presidents of several bar associations,
young people as representatives of the Turkish Youth Federation, and representatives of
relevant public institutions.
In order to increase the recognition of the Ombudsman Institution among university
students, we held the “Conference on Ombudsman and Türkiye 2023 Goals” at
several universities including İzmir Ege University, Ankara Science University,
Adıyaman University, Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü
İmam University, Rize Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, and Trabzon Karadeniz
Technical University.
In 2021, we continued the provincial meetings, where we brought together the citizens
with the administration, listened to their problems, and offered them the opportunity
to convey their problems to the provincial administrators.
We visited the cities of Aydın and İzmir on 18-19 November 2021 to investigate the
problems experienced by migrants and the physical and psychological violence they
experience and to make some contacts. Within the scope of the contacts, we visited the
Aydın Repatriation Centre and the Harmandalı Repatriation Centre affiliated to the
