Report on the Study Visit Conducted to Hungary Related to Ukrainian Refugees By the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye

              volunteers have applied to
              them and are helping with
              transportation, authorities
              informed that refugees
              are provided with food as
              soon as they arrive and
              that a package containing
              a sandwich, milk, and
              other drinks is prepared
              and served if they will
              leave, and they added that
cat and dog food are also
              available for pet owners. It
was pointed out that at the
              centre, employees prepare
              sandwiches and these
              packages for 24 hours with
              the assistance of volunteers
              and that they organise
              donations such as clothing.
It was noted that there are 2
              sports halls where they can
              gather the people who have
              arrived and that there were
              times when both halls were
full in the first days. Authorities also stated that since it is a transit region,
most of the people have left the centre within 4-5 hours. The stand serving
as the temporary regional office of the Ombudsman’s Office of Hungary
at the reception centre was also visited.

Finally, Zahony train station, where people have come to Hungary by
train from Ukraine, was visited. Due to the time of our visit, the station
was quiet as the train had not arrived yet. It was expressed that it gets
crowded during train hours and that the number of passengers brought
by trains from Ukraine varies between 100-700 depending on the number
of people they gather. It was noted that since the train tracks of Hungary
and Ukraine are different in width, everyone has to get off here and change
trains even if they will continue their journey. It was explained that people
who have the necessary documents can continue their journey, whereas
