were distributed and collected for evaluation. After the opening speeches, in the second
part of the meeting the "Open Microphone" section was held, where the participants
were given the opportunity to talk for 5 minutes about the problems they had with the
administration or their expectations from the Ombudsman Institution. An average of 30
citizens took the floor at the open mic section in the provinces. In addition, citizens who
applied to the Ombudsman Institution before and whose problems were resolved by a
Recommendation or Amicable Settlement Decision were also offered a chance to talk.
In 2022, citizens, the Ombudsman Institution met with NGOs, opinion leaders, village
headmen and provincial administrators in Manisa, Tekirdağ, Erzurum, Antalya/
Alanya, Isparta, Burdur/Bucak, Eskişehir, Zonguldak, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Sivas,
Tokat, Amasya, İstanbul, Yalova, İzmir, Diyarbakır, Erzincan, Tunceli and Elazığ
within the scope of regional meetings with the theme of “Ombudsman Meets with the
Public” and provincial study visits.
9.1.3 MEETINGS WITH ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS
Ombudsman Institution is the only institution in Türkiye that receives applications
directly from children without the need for parental approval or permission. In this
context, effective activities have been carried out in order to increase the recognition
of the Ombudsman Institution among elementary, secondary and high school students
and to spread the culture of seeking legal remedies.
In this context, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, in order
to raise the awareness of seeking legal remedies in elementary and secondary school
students, the subject of “Ombudsman” which is included in the curriculum of the
fourth grade has also been included in the curricula of the seventh and ninth grades.
In addition, some of the activities carried out in 2022 within the scope of meeting with
children and high school students are given below:
• Within the framework of the "Ombudsman
Institution and Child Rights" training program
developed in cooperation with the Ombudsman
Institution and UNICEF in 2019, "Peer Education
for Ombudsman Institution and Child Rights" was
carried out.

• Children who are members of the 26 Term
Children's Assembly of Ankara Metropolitan
Municipality visited the Ombudsman
Institution on 13 April 2022. They met with
Chief Ombudsman Mr. Şeref Malkoç and
Ombudsman Ms. Özlem Tunçak responsible
for child rights.
