9. EXPANDING THE CULTURE OF SEEKING LEGAL
REMEDIES AND RELATIONS WITH STAKEHOLDERS

9.1 ACTIVITIES AT NATIONAL LEVEL
9.1.1 RELATIONS WITH THE MEDIA

The Ombudsman Institution has good relations with media since its establishment.
The media is an important stakeholder in announcing the activities of the Ombudsman
Institution, increasing its recognition, raising the awareness of seeking legal remedies
among the citizens and encouraging them to seek legal remedies. The Ombudsman
Institution has been featured in the press 15,924 times with its activities, reports and
recommendations in 2022.

In 2022,
❖ The Chief Ombudsman gave interviews to many national channels and agencies,
and participated in live broadcasts of televisions.
❖ The Chief Ombudsman held interviews with 50 press members, consisting of
Ankara representatives of newspapers and televisions.
❖ Within the scope of the Ombudsman Meets the Public program, we held
meetings in Manisa, Tekirdağ, Zonguldak, Diyarbakır, Elazığ and Erzincan with
members of the national and local media and gave statements regarding the
program.
❖ The press was invited to the signing ceremony of the cooperation protocol
between the Ombudsman Institution and the Turkish Red Crescent.
❖ The Ombudsman Institution held conferences on "Ombudsman and Türkiye's
goals for 2023" and met with youth from universities in Izmir, Isparta, Eskisehir,
Yalova, Istanbul, Bursa, Amasya, Antalya, Afyonkarahisar, Tokat, Zonguldak,
Sivas and Ankara. The members of the media also attended the conferences.
❖ “The Special Report on Pushbacks in the Aegean Sea and ‘Pushback’ of Human
Rights” was presented to the public in an introductory meeting to which the
press was invited.
❖ Association of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of Turkic
States (TÜRKOMB) was established with the meeting held in Bursa. Press was
invited to the meeting and media interviews were held.
❖ Interviews were given and statements were made to the press about the
"Ombudsman Institution and Child Rights" themed programs organized in
line with the goal of helping children and young people learn about their rights.
Within the scope of the visits to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
Kazakhstan, France, Hungary, Morocco, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Belgium and Iran,
before and during the visits, interviews were given to the representatives of news
agencies from Türkiye and television channels and newspapers of the countries
visited.
