The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Mr. Mustafa Şentop started
the opening speech of International Conference on the Future of Human Rights in

the 21 Century by greeting the guests.
Stating that as a kind of special way of exercising the right to petition in Türkiye, the
Turkish Ombudsman Institution has gained its existence within the Parliament, Mr.
Şentop said that since the date of its establishment, the Turkish Ombudsman Institu-
tion has been carrying out effective and fruitful work in the protection of human rights.
Stating that although the decisions of the institution are not legally binding, the fact
that the administration tries to comply with the decisions with a high rate is a sign
that it meets a great need, Mr. Şentop said that stated that the human rights issue is
still one of the most problematic areas in the world, despite the institutionalization
in the national and international arena. Mr. Şentop drew attention to the recent hu-
man rights violations that took place before the eyes of the world.

He stated that this conference is promising in because people from all over the world
are on a common platform on the future of Human Rights and it has an impact on the
solution of existing problems through experience sharing.
