Türkiye’s Fight Against COVID-19 Pandemic

It is globally confirmed that the age group which is at highest risk for
COVID-19 pandemic is 65 and over. In this regard, it will be useful to compare
Türkiye with the rest of the world. In 2018, the world average of the population
aged 65 and over is 8,9%. This rate is 20,1% in the EU member countries
while it is 17,1% in the OECD countries. As for Türkiye, this rate has been
estimated to be 8,8% in 2018, which is below the world average. In Türkiye, the
low ratio of the population aged 65 and above in the total population has been
an advantage in country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
