Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca Gave a Speech in China: We have the power to affect the lives of millions with a single decision

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca and Ombudsman Mr. Sadettin Kalkan participated in the International Workshop on “Effective Ombudsmanship for People’s Livelihood” held in China.

In his speech at the session titled “Stronger Ombudsmanship for Better Livelihood,” Mr. Akarca stated, “Concepts such as access to justice, fundamental rights and freedoms, good administration and fairness are among the key elements that determine the quality of life in societies. This is because a system that can ensure these elements fosters citizens’ trust in the state. This is precisely where Ombudsman Institutions play a crucial role. Ombudsman Institutions are the bridges between citizens and the state. We work to promote a culture of seeking legal remedies, ensure justice, uphold the rule of law, protect fundamental rights and freedoms and foster an understanding of good administration in administrations.”

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Akarca underlined that the Ombudsman Institution believes a strong ombudsman plays an important role not only for individuals but also for the overall welfare of society, and he noted that they carry out their work diligently within this framework.

Mr. Akarca expressed that they strive to contribute to improving the quality of services provided by the administration, ensuring good administration, protecting and promoting human rights, and fostering a culture of seeking legal remedies.

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca stated the following in his speech:

“We are the defenders of justice and human rights. We are the advocates of the people. We are the voice of the voiceless. We have the power to affect the lives of millions with a single decision. The stronger our institutions are, the stronger society’s faith in justice will become. A system where public services are improved, transparent, equal and fair will also bring social peace and harmony.”

Highlighting that another important duty of Ombudsmen is to provide guidance to public administrations, Mr. Akarca stated, “Administrations should not view the Ombudsman merely as an oversight body. In this context, effective communication and cooperation with public administrations are essential. Another important criterion that will strengthen the Ombudsmen is international solidarity and cooperation. Learning from diverse knowledge and experiences enhances the capacity of our institutions. In this regard, I see this workshop as a significant opportunity for all of us, and I value it highly.”
