Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye, Mr. Mehmet Akarca, participated the International Ombudsman Conference commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Office of the Ombudsman in Malta, on the theme: "Upholding Good Governance in Challenging Times: The Role of the Ombudsman."

Mr. Akarca delivered a speech on "Building People’s Trust-The Ombudsman as a Pillar of Democracy in Times of Change" and mentioned that: “The world is changing rapidly, and this change brings with it new challenges. Developments during these times of change affect citizens’ perceptions of faith and trust in the state and public administration. At this point, Ombudsman Institutions play a critical role in building this trust. They are not merely a complaint or oversight mechanism; they are a bridge of trust between citizens and the state.”

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca Had Bilateral Meetings in Malta

As part of the international conference, Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca held a bilateral meeting with the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Malta and the Secretary General of the Mediterranean Ombudsmen Association Mr. Joseph Zammit McKeon.

During the meeting, the parties discussed inter-institutional relations and potential areas of cooperation within the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen.

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights of Ukraine, Mr. Mykhailo Spasov, during the international ombudsman conference held in Malta.

The meeting addressed topics related to the cooperation between the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye and its Ukrainian counterpart.

In addition, Chief Ombudsman had a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Türkiye in Valletta, Fethi Etem, who also attended the conference.

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca attended the General Assembly meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen, of which the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye is a member, held in Malta.

Within the framework of the conference in Malta, Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Hany Ibrahim, Secretary General of the National Council for Human Rights of Egypt. During the meeting, potential joint efforts between the two institutions were discussed.

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca met with the Prime Minister of Malta, Mr. Robert Abela, who attended the closing ceremony of the international conference.

Chief Ombudsman Mr. Mehmet Akarca attended the sessions and closing ceremony on the second day of the international ombudsman conference hosted by the Office of the Ombudsman of Malta.
