Chief Ombudsman Akarca Meets with Ankara-Based Consultants, Arbitrators and Authors

Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca, along with Ombudsmen Ertunç Erkan Balta, Fatma Benli Yalçın, Sadettin Kalkan, Abdullah Cengiz Makas and Özcan Yıldız, and the Institution’s Secretary General Mehmet Doğan, met with Ankara-based consultants, arbitrators and authors who contribute to Ombudsman Academic, a national peer-reviewed journal, as part of the institution’s traditional gatherings with academicians.

During the meeting, which involved an exchange of ideas regarding the academic journal, Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca said “In line with the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights that constitute the basis of the Ombudsman Institution, the Ombudsman Academic Journal has been in publication since 2014 to support the production of academic knowledge and to promote good governance principles in the public sphere. Our journal features significant studies in the fields of social sciences and humanities, particularly law, public administration, human rights and ethics. As a peer-reviewed journal, we continue to make an impact in academic circles with articles that uphold scholarly rigor and scientific standards.”

Noting that the purpose of the Ombudsman Institution is to contribute to the establishment of a human rights-focused, transparent, accountable and effective public administration approach, Mr. Akarca expressed that the Ombudsman Academic Journal is an important tool for discussing, developing and deepening this approach on academic platforms.

With the articles published, we offer concrete solution proposals for the functioning of public institutions, thus creating an efficient bridge between practice and theory.

“Our Journal’s editorial policy not only supports theoretical work, but also focuses on practical, current and societal issues.”

Remarking that the Ombudsman Institution aims not only to support the production of academic knowledge but also to ensure that such work contributes to policy-making processes for public administration, Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca noted “Our journal’s editorial policy is not limited to supporting only theoretical studies; it also focuses on practical, current and societal issues. Through our special issues in particular, we closely follow current developments from academic perspectives on critical and sensitive topics.”

Highlighting that last year’s Gaza Special Issue, published with contributions from over 130 academics, set a strong example in this regard and resonated both nationally and internationally, Mr. Akarca mentioned that such efforts demonstrate how Ombudsman Academic Journal fulfills a social responsibility mission, as well.

“A Special issue is being prepared as part of the ‘Year of the Family’ initiative”

Reporting that a special issue is being prepared in line with the “Year of the Family” declared by the Presidency, Mr. Akarca went on with his speech as follows: “With this special issue, we aim to address the role of the family institution in our society, the challenges it faces, and potential solutions from an academic perspective. We invite our esteemed academics and researchers to contribute to this special issue, which is open to interdisciplinary studies, especially law, sociology, psychology, education, public administration and human rights. We believe that your participation will greatly enrich the scientific discussions surrounding the family institution.”
